Soap Poetry is an independent British soap studio, founded in 2025 in Ayrshire by Frances and John Burridge.

The Love of Soap

We’ve always loved good soap. There’s something deeply satisfying about it, from unwrapping a fresh bar to the first lather and sniff of its fragrance.

Once a fixture in every home, the trusty soap bar has, in recent years, been edged out by plastic bottles filled with synthetic gels. 

Our soaps are made with nourishing plant butters and oils, giving a rich, creamy lather and gentle scents from essential oils. We set out not just to make a soap that’s beautifully packaged and full of heart, we wanted to make a soap that’s a joy every time you pick it up. And, most importantly, soap that leaves your skin feeling clean and cared for.

The Love of Literature

Books have always been part of everyday life. Before my first Interrail trip to Italy, A Room with a View had already shaped my idea of the country. Arriving there, I felt as though I was following in Lucy Honeychurch’s footsteps, wide-eyed and enchanted by it all, even in '90s grunge.

And some lines stay imprinted long after they’ve been read, so a breath of morning air in the garden brings to mind Colin in The Secret Garden, when “the strength poured into him like a flood.”

It felt only natural to bring that love of books into what we make. Each soap begins with a book, and we use scent, colour and ingredients to bring something of the story to life.

What We Make

We make our soaps by hand, in small batches, in our Ayrshire-coast workshop.

Our recipes use plant butters and oils, essential oils and botanicals, all COSMOS-certified organic and sourced from trusted UK suppliers.

Our fragrances range from dark and resinous to floral, herbaceous and green, with each one developed to celebrate the story behind the soap.

Community

We work with literacy charities and local schools, championing literacy in the communities around us.  Read about this here. 

Our Organic Commitment

Choosing organic ingredients matters to us. It means choosing the best ingredients, while supporting farming practices that work with nature rather than against it. 

Everything we make is vegan and free from palm oil, synthetic fragrance, and preservatives. 

We’re proud members of the Guild of Craft, Soap & Toiletry Makers, and we’re committed to keeping the tradition of handmade soap-making alive.

It’s a small part of what we make, but an important one.
